Its time to get up
and stomp your feet
to this great foot stomping Transylvanian beat!
Its Monday morning and I'm trying to write,
But instead
I find myself sitting with Tiny Guy watching The Count tell us The Number of The Day
(turns out, its really fun, its the number 1)
Normally,
I don't really have many writing challenges anymore ...
In terms of getting going each day and actually doing the writing.
Thats largely thanks to some key perspective shifts I've had over the last year or two, as well as the organization techniques and writing tools I've landed on, which I've written about before.
Yet,
Here I am,
Sitting with Tiny Guy, watching The Count sing and dance ...
1 2 3 spread out your cape!
(etc - we're doing The Batty Bat here)
The writing process I use creates a TON of threaded connections
Which is great for pulling apart complex ideas, exploring details, putting it all back together, etc
But
A side effect is an eventual - and inevitable - overwhelm of things to write and sort through.
Which I'm realizing is whats going on here.
The more I go through this cycle the sooner I catch it (always raising the floor).
Its like a garden thats run wild.
Just needs a little weeding here
A little pruning there
Some organization and clarity,
and I'm back on track.
Its actually thanks to that same structure I mentioned in the article above, using Obsidian.
These days I do my best to not get focused on tools - on the form.
But sometimes theres a tool that really facilitates a necessary function better than anything else.
In the last 15 years of progressively going through different tools and techniques for managing my writing,
I've never had another that could so effectively and quickly get me out of overwhelm and back into the work.
If anyone is interested, I could walk through how that process works for me
Just comment below or respond to the email if you’d like me to do that.
