As were getting our oldest to marching band and his school's homecoming game,
I am reminded of an event which took place,
just a few weeks ago ...
"What ... is happening??"
I nod a few rows down from us.
My wife and I are at the local high school football game (our oldest son plays in the marching band).
Unfolding in front of us is ... quite the scene.
A woman with her older parents in tow just showed up and is ...
Getting into a heated argument.
It appears.
We watch as she gestures wildly, down the row of bench seating, up the other rows in our direction.
Its too loud to hear what she's saying
But the people she's arguing with are NOT happy.
They were just sitting there minding their own business, watching the pre-game band festivities ...
And now?
Its like a FIGHT is about to break out.
What unfolds is a confusing scene.
The new lady, gesturing authoritatively, and dare I say rudely,
Manages to convince everyone else in the row TO LEAVE ...
so SHE can have their seats.
🤯🫨🧐
She convinced them that these unmarked seats, right on the 50 yard line, were special VIP seats which only she had the tickets for
(spoiler alert, there’s nothing marked)
She just,
came in,
waved her finger around and demanded the seats
And the everyone else capitulated
Maybe they didn't want the conflict.
But maybe they just deferred to the authority this person exerted and their own uncertainty about the situation.
I don't know.
"I wouldn't have moved" my wife mutters.
Yea absolutely. There ain't no assigned seating in this 'ere stadium.
But Authority be like that.
If you don't recognize when someone is artificially swinging THAT stick around ... it can be challenging to ignore.
And since it's such a useful skill to see that false Authority ...
I wrote an article about it a few weeks back.
Perhaps you’ll find this an enjoyable read for your weekend :)
